About Dr. Battey

One of the founding partners of Rhode Island Foot Care, Inc., Dr. Michael Battey has been a Rhode Island based podiatrist for thirty-seven years providing comprehensive foot and ankle care to thousands of children and adults, referred by satisfied patients, and regional physicians. In 1982, Dr. Battey became the first podiatrist performing hospital surgery in Rhode Island to become Board Certified in Foot and Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He later served the certifying board as an oral examiner and committee member for many years. Currently, Dr. Battey maintains an active office practice, and performs hospital consultations as requested. He also is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Medical Science at the Brown University Alpert Medical School.

Dr. Battey developed and chaired the first podiatric surgical residency in Rhode Island in 1983 at the former Cranston General Hospital Osteopathic, Cranston, RI. He led the program through a change in sponsor to Roger Williams Medical Center in 1991 and continues to actively serve as Director of Podiatric Medical Education.

Dr. Battey’s professional’s focus has been in education, serving as an evaluation team chair, appeal committee chair, and review committee member for the Council on Podiatric Medical Education. He has inspected surgical training programs in over fifty medical centers nationwide. Additionally, he has served as the Chair of the American Podiatric Medical Association’s Education Sub-committee on Residency Enhancement.

Locally, Dr. Battey has served in multiple professional positions including President of the Rhode Island Podiatric Medical Association, and Chair of the Board of Podiatric Licensure, Rhode Island Department of Health.
